Korat Expo Academy
Preparing People for 2029 and Beyond
Six training areas place local skills at the heart of Korat’s preparations for its international horticultural expo, with ideas that tourism businesses and communities in Khao Yai can also build on.
A welcoming destination starts with its people
Preparing a destination for international visitors involves countless everyday encounters: a host explaining local customs, a guide sharing a landscape’s history, or a coordinator helping an event run smoothly. Together, these experiences shape how visitors remember a place.
The promotional materials for Korat Expo Academy put this human side of destination development at the centre of preparations. The aim is to strengthen local capabilities for international events while developing skills that remain useful afterwards.
An announcement published by Nakhon Ratchasima Rajabhat University on 19 October 2026 identifies the provincial tourism and sports office, the university, and public and private partners as collaborators in the initiative.

The event behind the preparations
The Nakhon Ratchasima International Horticultural Expo 2029 is scheduled for 10 November 2029 to 28 February 2030. Approved by the International Association of Horticultural Producers (AIPH) as a Category A1 exhibition, it carries the theme “Nature and Greenery: Envisioning the Green Future.”
Its themes extend into food, biodiversity, agricultural innovation, liveable environments, arts and culture. These connections create a useful context for thinking about the skills a host destination needs, both within the exhibition and across its wider visitor economy.

Turning local knowledge into meaningful visits
Korat has distinctive stories to share. UNESCO designated Khorat a Global Geopark in 2023, recognising a landscape notable for its fossils and cuesta formations. This heritage offers opportunities for interpretation that helps visitors understand the places they explore.
Local knowledge becomes more accessible when hosts and guides can explain it clearly. Combined with thoughtful experience design, it can support community activities, educational visits and services with a strong sense of place.
What this could mean for Khao Yai
For businesses in Khao Yai and Pak Chong, the academy’s focus offers practical ideas: prepare useful bilingual guest information, build relationships with community hosts, source local ingredients and reduce waste during visitor activities.
From Khaoyai Connect’s perspective, these steps could also help businesses develop experiences for travellers wishing to explore more of the province before or after attending the expo. Such opportunities depend on coordination and service quality; increased visitor numbers or revenue should not be treated as guaranteed outcomes.
The lasting value of Korat Expo Academy will lie in how people use what they learn. Skills in communication, hospitality, cultural interpretation and responsible tourism can continue serving local businesses and communities well beyond the event itself.
