Unveiling the “Community Wild Elephants” of Khao Yai, Part 5:
Get to Know “Yot Chai,” the Handsome Young Elephant of Mu Si
Among the elephants of Khao Yai, the one with the most charming name is undeniably Plai Yot Chai. This 15-year-old young bull boasts a handsome face and stands just a little over 2 meters tall.

The locals of Mu Si don't just love Yot Chai for his name; he is also exceptionally handsome and far more meticulous about his appearance than his peers. Noticeable traits include his perfectly even tusks and a clean, scar-free body. This is likely due to his daily bathing routine, meaning he is rarely seen covered in red mud like the other elephants.

His striking good looks are exactly how he earned the name "Yot Chai" (which means an outstanding man). Although no one is quite sure who coined it first, the handsome young Plai Yot Chai is now well-known to everyone.
Yot Chai’s most prominent personality traits are his solitary nature, love for seclusion, and shyness. He strongly prefers avoiding people. In Gen Z terms, you could call him an "introverted" elephant who enjoys quietly foraging for crops in the orchards all by himself.

Whenever he encounters humans, he will retreat and avoid confrontation. However, if someone calls his name, he will turn to look, as he recognizes it.
In terms of aggressiveness (when feeling threatened), on a scale of 1 to 5 stars—from least to most aggressive—officials and volunteers rate him at 3 stars.

As for the difficulty of herding him back into the forest, on a scale of 1 to 5 stars from easiest to hardest, the rangers and volunteers give him just 2 stars.

Luckily for the rangers and volunteers, Plai Yot Chai isn't particularly stubborn, making encounters with him relatively stress-free. As long as the team executes their plan systematically, this young bull can be guided back into the forest without much trouble at all.
